Lucile White, Manager of the Southern Research High Throughput Screening Center since 2004, oversees the screening of large compound libraries against enzyme, protein, and cell-based assays for both government and commercial clients. The state-of-the-art HTS Center is a suite of laboratories designed for efficient screening of large compound libraries while maintaining the capacity for a wide variety of assay types. Ms. White leads a staff with in-depth experience and demonstrated proficiency in transferring bench top assays to the robotics platform and executing cell-based and biochemical screens.
In 2005, Southern Research established the Southern Research Molecular Libraries Screening Center (SRMLSC) when it was designated one of nine nongovernment screening centers in the NIH's Molecular Libraries Screening Center Network, a part of the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research. The Southern Research HTS Center is at the core of the SRMLSC and has performed successfully under Ms. White's leadership.
Since 1995, Ms. White has held leadership positions in the Southern Research Enzymology Laboratory and is currently Manager of the lab. Ms. White is an expert in the development of methods for the purification, characterization, and assay of enzymes. She has over 40 years of experience working with enzymes representative of the six primary enzyme classes and is familiar with most methods used in the following enzyme reactions - spectrophotometric, fluorescence, continuous titration with pH-stat, and radioactive tracers.
Ms. White has authored over 60 publications in these areas, including invited review articles and book chapters. This work has also led to the filing of several patents.
Ms. White joined Southern Research in 1980 and served as a research chemist in the Biochemistry Department until 1990 when she became a staff biologist, remaining in the Biochemistry Department until 1995. In her earlier career, Ms. White held various research positions at the University of Alabama Medical Center, The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, the Stanford Research Institute and the Frederick Cancer Research Center in Frederick, Maryland. She received her B.A. degree in Chemistry from Southwestern at Memphis (currently Rhodes College) in Memphis, Tennessee.
