WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (March 2, 2007) - The Purdue University College of Agriculture is honoring eight Distinguished Agricultural Alumni during a campus ceremony on Friday, March 2.
"These eight people represent who we are and what we do so well in Purdue Agriculture," said Randy Woodson, the Glenn W. Sample Dean of Agriculture. "These people are innovators and educators, leaders and motivators. We take great pride in our alumni and it's always a thrill to honor those who have distinguished themselves in their careers."
Among the honorees is Colleen Jonsson, a senior research scientist at Southern Research where she is a program leader in emerging infectious disease research. Her team studies hantavirus, avian flu and other infectious diseases while looking for potential treatments; and is looking at land use, climate, and the environment in the role they play in emerging infectious disease outbreaks. She earned a Purdue doctoral degree in biochemistry in 1990.
