BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (February 13, 2007) - Organizers today announced that engineering scientists from government, academia and the private sector around the world will gather in Birmingham, Alabama for the 29th International Thermal Conductivity Conference (ITCC) and the 17th International Thermal Expansion Symposium (ITES) on June 24-27, 2007. Information about the 2007 conference, registration and submitting abstracts for technical presentations is available at www.thermalconductivity.org.
The 2007 joint ITCC/ITES conference-held concurrently every two years-is being hosted by Southern Research Institute and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel, 2101 Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North in Birmingham. The 2005 ITCC/ITES conference was held in New Brunswick, Canada and drew registrants from all over the U.S. and 17 countries. Technical presentations for this year's conference have already been submitted by scientists from the Czech Republic, China, Canada, Italy, Iran, Pakistan, Germany, France, Poland, Brazil and the U.S.
"These conferences bring together leading scientists and engineers to discuss the critical challenges we face in working with thermal conductivity and thermal expansion technologies," said John Koenig, event co-chair and director of Materials Engineering at Southern Research. "It is important, as a scientific community, to exchange technical knowledge, and the ITCC/ITES conferences provide an excellent forum for that, as well as networking opportunities."
Given the Alabama location, conference events will take on a "Sports, Space and Transportation" theme, beginning with a welcome reception at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. The conference's keynote address will be delivered by Astronaut Charles J. Camarda, a mission specialist on the NASA "Return to Flight" mission. The conference will close with a dinner at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum.
The 2007 meetings will include plenary sessions, sessions on thermal conductivity and thermal expansion, poster presentations and tours of the Engineering Division at Southern Research Institute and the UAB School of Engineering. Sponsorships and exhibitor packages are available for this meeting.
