June 2, 2006 - Tina Rogers has been named interim president CEO of Southern Research Institute effective June 30, 2006, when current CEO Robert C. Lonergan retires. Southern Research Institute Board Chairman and UAB president Carol Z. Garrison announced Rogers’ appointment today.
Lonergan, who has led Southern Research since 2001, announced his planned retirement in September 2005, and efforts are ongoing to name his permanent replacement.
Rogers has served as vice president of the Southern Research Drug Development Division since 2002. She first joined the organization in 1989. Her previous positions there include director of Safety Assessment and study director in the Toxicology Department. She received her Ph.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed postdoctoral work at the medical schools at Harvard and Tufts, and is a widely published researcher.
“Tina Rogers will do a superb job in this interim appointment,” Garrison said. “She has a long history at Southern Research, heads the division which represents the largest percentage of the institute’s business, and she already leads a big team. She is committed to Southern Research and will certainly help the institute maintain its momentum as we move forward in our search for new leadership.”
