Bioanalytical Sciences Department of Southern Research Institute to Exhibit at American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Oct. 31, 2005) - The Bioanalytical Sciences Department at Southern Research today announced that it will participate in the 2005 American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists taking place at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. from November 6-10, exhibiting at Booth #127.

For more than 40 years, Southern Research has partnered with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, government (including NIH) and academic institutions in support of numerous drug discovery and development programs.

The company’s Bioanalytical Sciences department provides comprehensive bioanalytical research services for the preclinical evaluation of drug candidates and analysis support for early clinical trials. The department provides a full range of dose formulation and optimization services, method development and validation, in vitro metabolism studies, proteomics and much more.

The appointment of Gregory S. Gorman, Ph.D., as director of the Bioanalytical team in June, 2003 further enhanced the company’s technical capabilities. While at Southern Research, he has completed analyses on various projects advancing numerous drug candidates for various indications including anti-tumor and chemotherapeutic and chemopreventative drugs, anti-psychotics, analgesics, peptides and antihistaminics.

“What sets Bioanalytical Sciences apart from other research facilities is a more personalized approach focused on gaining a clear understanding of our partners goals in each phase of the drug development process,” says Dr. Gorman. “Scientists in both drug discovery and development choose to examine science, at its core, and provide timely solutions to our clients to advance their drugs into clinical trials.”

Over the years, Southern Research has established a history of excellence in the field of drug discovery, having discovered six FDA-approved anti-cancer therapies on the market, with another four in clinical trials. The company evaluates numerous new therapies and drug technologies each year, providing critical data that allows its partners to make the key decisions at the earliest opportunity in the pursuit of IND applications and NDA approvals.
