BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (February 8, 2005) – Southern Research Institute today announced that David A. Rutledge has been named Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately. Rutledge has been with Southern Research Institute for 19 years, serving as the company’s controller for the past seven years.
“David’s knowledge of the government contracting process, and his tremendous experience with both not-for-profit and for-profit accounting practices clearly established him as a strong candidate for this job,” said Robert C. Lonergan, Southern Research president and CEO. “His tangible contributions to the success of Southern Research Institute could not be overlooked, and we are very pleased that he has accepted this new responsibility as our chief financial officer.”
Rutledge has more than 20 years experience in public and private accounting sectors. Since 1998, as the controller at Southern Research, Rutledge managed the accounting department which included reviewing monthly financial statements, coordinating annual budgets and performing financial analyses to assess trends. He also negotiated final and provisional indirect rate agreements with the Department of Health and Human Services and managed insurance programs.
He first joined Southern Research Institute in 1986 as a contracts specialist. For 10 years, Rutledge held a number of increasingly responsible financial management and contract administration positions with Southern Research Technologies, Inc., and SRT Electro-Optics, Inc., for-profit spin-off subsidiaries of Southern Research Institute.
Rutledge earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1983. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Alabama, and holds memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
