In Vivo Anticancer Efficacy Testing

Southern Research is a recognized pioneer in anticancer drug development, drawing on the unique expertise gained from a relationship with the National Cancer Institute since 1957. During this time, Southern Research has screened thousands of potential anticancer compounds, including most of the FDA-approved chemotherapeutic drugs. In addition, we have developed a proprietary database that includes anticancer efficacy information on most clinically useful agents. Our unparalleled experience enables us to design optimal studies that provide critical preclinical anticancer efficacy data for our clients' drug development programs and regulatory applications. We provide responsive study directors with years of experience performing preclinical efficacy studies in immune-compromised and immune-competent mice. Southern Research facilities are AAALAC-accredited and have the capacity to accommodate 18,000 mice.

The following in vivo anticancer efficacy evaluations are available to assist clients in advancing pharmaceutical products:

  • Anticancer efficacy models
  • Early vs. late-stage disease comparisons
  • Evaluations to maximize compound effectiveness
  • Establishment of maximum tolerated dose
  • Determination of schedule dependency
  • Comparison of formulations and routes of administration
  • Determination of minimum effective dosage
  • Combination chemotherapy with clinically useful agents or radiation
  • Radiation treatments
  • Cross-resistance profiles
  • Spectrum of activity analyses
