Missile Seeker Technologies

Southern Research has been on the forefront of missile seeker development for more than four decades, providing military customers with advanced design solutions developed to address their specific needs and challenges. Since the 1960s, we have developed missile guidance systems in collaboration with the Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center (ARMDEC) at Redstone Arsenal. This partnership has enabled us to amass extensive experience and skill in the development of Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) imaging seekers. In addition, we supported the development of the Army's Fiber Optic Guided Missile (FOGM), the Enhanced Fiber Optic Guided Missile (EFOGM), and Future Missile Technology Insertion (FMTI) in addition to other groundbreaking seeker programs.

Surrogate Seeker Technologies

• Southern Research has developed several laboratory missile seeker surrogates. These gimbals were developed specifically for testing and refining infrared tracking algorithms.

Future Missile Technology Integration (FMTI) Gimbals

• Southern Research, in coordination with Raytheon Electronic Systems, has developed an advanced missile seeker gimbal for the U.S. Army's Future Missile Technology Integration (FMTI) program. FMTI is a technology-based program for the U.S. Army's next generation anti-armor, anti-helicopter weapon. The FMTI program investigated new technologies such as advanced materials for infrared gimbal construction, digital stabilization, and a high-resolution camera for improved target detection and recognition.
