The goal of our pre-clinical anti-herpesvirus drug development program is the expeditious evaluation of the efficacy, toxicity, range and mechanism of action of your compounds. Our laboratory currently offers primary screening assays to identify inhibitors of herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2 (HSV-1 & HSV-2), human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), varicella-zoster virus (VZV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) and human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8, also known as Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus or KSHV). Development of a primary screening assay for human herpesvirus 7 (HHV-7) is currently in progress. In addition to primary screens, we have the ability to perform a wide variety of secondary assays to determine the range and mechanism of action of your compound. Furthermore, we can design and implement research projects specific to your needs for the development of novel anti-herpesvirus compounds. Support for our anti-herpesvirus program has been obtained from the NCI and from numerous commercial sources.
