About Us

Diversity

The value of diversity may be our greatest discovery.

As Southern Research seeks to address global science and technology issues, we believe there should be no cultural, racial or other barriers to our success. The rapid discovery and development of solutions to meet today's problems demands individual creativity and an environment where ideas are allowed to flourish. Ours is such an environment.

Our talented staff represents our greatest discovery. Each individual, possessing their own unique set of beliefs, experiences, opinions and thoughts, has the opportunity to make a difference every day for our organization and our world.

Southern Research provides an organizational culture that promotes fair and consistent treatment, fosters creativity, and values each individual contribution which furthers our work in life sciences and technology.

We value the perspectives that four generations, countless races, and a mixture of cultures, working together bring to Southern Research. There is no doubt that we have a tremendous opportunity each day to discover the enormous potential in every member of Southern Research.

Profiles in Diversity

Peter Silvera

Peter Silvera, PhD
Program Leader

When Dr. Silvera joined Southern Research six years ago, he was impressed by the variety of research projects and the degree of expertise and accomplishments of the researchers at the company. Peter said, "The people of Southern Research are dedicated to making a major impact on the improvement of medical health in the U.S. and worldwide."

"Southern Research is the kind of place where dedicated scientists play a major role in the enhancement of medical health both in the U.S. and globally through their efforts to develop new and improved therapeutic and vaccine approaches for a wide range of infectious diseases." He feels that everyone should appreciate the significant contributions that "we" have made to the development of these new therapies and vaccines.

Peter has in excess of twenty years experience working with non-human primates, including twelve years focused on the evaluation of various vaccines and therapeutic approaches for HIV/AIDS.

Peter said, "If I didn't do this for a living, I'd love to be an MD."

Wynema Kimbrough

Wynema Kimbrough
Advanced Chemist / PSDF Laboratory Supervisor

Wynema is an advanced chemist in the Environment and Energy Department and has worked at Southern Research for fifteen years. Readily admitting that she was initially intimidated by the expertise and experience of the people who interviewed her, Wynema came to Southern Research directly from college and "was afraid that I had nothing to offer to such a knowledgeable group of people." She was looking for a job that would be challenging and would not be a daily routine. We think she found the right job.

Wynema feels that Southern Research is the kind of place where "the input of every employee is valued." She also indicates that the company is strong due to the diversity of its employees in terms of backgrounds, experience and expertise.

The next time you pick up a novel, check the author's name. Wynema said she would "love to be a science fiction writer" if she were not working at Southern Research.
